SDG 16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Satbayev University addresses this goal through academic integrity, anti-corruption practices, ethical governance, and transparent institutional mechanisms. The university's official resources reflect anti-corruption activities, corporate ethics, academic policy, and work to comply with academic integrity standards.
What does this mean for Satbayev University
The university builds a culture of responsibility, transparency, and trust — both in education and in management, research activities, and relationships with stakeholders. Instilling the principles of integrity and academic honesty is a high priority for our university.
Sustainable environment
An important step towards strengthening institutions and increasing trust in the university was Satbayev University's integration into the UN Global Compact. The university became the first university in Kazakhstan to join this largest corporate social responsibility initiative. Membership ensures commitment to the principles of human rights, fair labor practices, anti-corruption, and environmental responsibility, opening a platform for international cooperation and best practice exchange.
Satbayev University contributes to strengthening peace, legal awareness, and effective institutions through educational, awareness-raising, and civic initiatives aimed at forming legal culture, youth responsibility, and active civic participation, which contribute to:
✔ building legal culture and respect for current legislation among youth;
✔ engaging students in civic dialogue and public processes;
✔ disseminating principles of corporate ethics, ESG, and compliance in the business environment and regional governance;
✔ strengthening institutional openness, cooperation with the UN and the international community.
These efforts support SDG 16, aimed at peaceful, just, and inclusive societies with effective institutions based on the principles of law and responsibility.
Research
Satbayev University carries out systematic work to integrate sustainable development principles into research activities through the SDG Office, which coordinates the implementation of the University's strategies aimed at developing and strengthening institutions, research projects, publications, and monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals, including legal and institutional aspects. This Office supports cooperation with government bodies, research centers, and public organizations to develop analytical materials, seminars, and research aimed at strengthening institutional structure and legal awareness.
SDG events calendarScientific projects in the university repository, including studies of governance and corporate control, create a theoretical base for strengthening institutional practices, governance, and corporate sustainability, which is a cornerstone of SDG 16. Furthermore, the university's research infrastructure, including dissertation councils and publication support, ensures the development of research competencies necessary for implementing independent scientific analysis in government and corporate practice, thereby increasing institutional effectiveness.
Examples of our publicationsEducation
Satbayev University also participates in global educational initiatives that integrate sustainable development, social leadership, and institutional competencies into students:
SDG Future17 - a global program for students, faculty, and partners focused on working on sustainable development challenges, including those related to strengthening institutional transparency, peace, and justice.
Satbayev University implements educational initiatives aimed at strengthening legal awareness, responsibility, and understanding of institutional mechanisms. An example is the "Law and Order" program, launched in 2025, which builds students' respect for the law, understanding of the principles of lawful behavior, and responsibility for actions, thereby strengthening the culture of legal ethics among youth. Program activities include seminars, discussions of examples from law enforcement practice, and educational screenings aimed at preventing offenses and building civic engagement.
Satbayev University also implements practical educational projects beyond the campus — for example, three-day training in Mangystau Region on sustainable development, ESG approaches, and compliance for businesses and local government bodies. This program helps participants implement modern principles of corporate and public responsibility, which is a foundation for fighting corruption, strengthening transparent institutions, and sustainable governance at the regional level.
Such educational platforms strengthen legal literacy, engage youth in socio-political discourse, and raise the level of understanding of the principles of effective governance — important components for achieving SDG 16.
Satbayev University's educational programs build students:
legal and institutional understanding of standards, certification, and legal frameworks; digital literacy, ability to work with information systems and protect rights in the digital environment; managerial competencies necessary for building effective, just, and sustainable public institutions; interdisciplinary thinking and social responsibility, supporting the values of peace, justice, and inclusion.
These educational directions strengthen graduates' ability to participate in creating effective, open, just, and sustainable institutions.
